This week’s curriculum was made up of the studying and analyzing of love letters. This topic was not only on par with the letters swirling around during WWII but also reached a more emotional and intimate aspect of writing. We have moved into the depths of these exchanges rather than informing and updating alone.

On Tuesday, September 24th, we were able to listen to a podcast called “Behind Thes Line: Episode 3- Love”, which discussed the topic of love letters as well during this period and read over quite a few to exhibit the many colorful situations and romantic affairs that took place over a pen and paper. Featuring heartbreaks and triumphs, this segment set the class up to continue learning about this subject, perhaps a contending project topic for whoever so chooses.

On Thursday, September 26th, we as a class listened to the audio translation of “My Dear Bessie”, a book that includes the many letters conversed between distant lovers during the WWII era, Chris and Bessie. What once started as a platonic relationship, through deep and intimate discussions, they became closer and increasingly yearning for each other, beyond being just friends. The development was not linear and was quite expressive and fascinating to take in. Both profoundly confessed their thoughts and desires over this course of exchanging letters. It was very sentimental and touching to imagine letters inspiring love. Near the end of class, Julia gave a presentation on how to construct a thesis and further work on our projects in progress. I also had the chance to peruse and comment on both Amal’s and Joey’s recent posts, exploring newer and unique styles of websites. These practices are posing new ideas for mine!
